MOHE ‘not transparent’ in handling case, says former Usim lecturer
The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) was “not transparent” in its reply over investigations on allegations of marks-fixing at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim), said former lecturer Yasmin Norhazleena Bahari Md Noor.
“The MOHE never answered my queries, which speaks volumes of their lack of transparency and integrity in handling my case,” she said.
Yasmin, who resigned from Usim’s law faculty at the end of last year, said several matters remained unanswered in the MOHE investigation.
“The ministry should explain the exact date the Department of Higher Education concluded that the USIM Senate had acted appropriately and had the right to request that the marking be re-evaluated. On what basis does the department conclude that the senate had acted accordingly?” asked Yasmin, who also questioned the powers of the Senate to order the re-evaluation of the marks.
Yasmin also wondered if the power exercised by the Usim Senate violates the National Higher Education Strategic Plan.
“If it does not violate such Plan, provide the justifications,” she said.
In June 2008, Yasmin complained to the Ministry of Higher Education that she was victimised and pressured to quit after refusing to pass students who had failed her course at the university. But she only received a reply in February from the ministry, which upheld the university’s decision on altering and giving passing grades to her failed students.
Last week, the ministry’s director-general Radin Umar Radin Sohadi said investigations into the case found no basis for Yasmin’s claims.
During my darkest hours after En Hisham Idris of KOSMO! published my plight, there were kind souls who helped me directly & indirectly. I would like to thank the following souls:

KOSMO! was sued by USIM for publishing my plight. KOSMO! brings into life the spirit of brave “Utusan Melayu’s” Malay reporters persecuted by Malay Leaders during ‘Mogok Utusan Melayu’.
Orang Melayu adalah orang Islam yang wajib bertuhankan Allah bukan bertuhankan kebatilan!!!! Terima kasih orang Melayu warga KOSMO! kerana menegakkan kebenaran! Orang Melayu warga KOSMO! mengambil risiko menolongku dan terpaksa menanggung beban disaman oleh USIM kerana menolongku. Ya Allah yang Maha ‘Adil, bantulah orang Melayu warga KOSMO! yang disaman kerana menolongku, Ya Allah. Ya Allah Yang Maha Memberi Rahmat, berkatilah kehidupan Orang Melayu warga KOSMO! saudara sebangsa dan seagama denganku yang sanggup bersusah payah menolongku, Ya Allah, Tuhan Yang Mengabulkan Doa Orang Yang Dizalimi!
There is still good in this world. These kind souls made me not lose hope! May Allah the All-Knowing bless them! Ameen!
There is a hadith of Rasulullah peace be upon Him: “Menegakkan hukum Allah di akhir zaman ibarat memegang bara api”. I am happy for upholding my principles, I am indeed blessed by Allah Ar Rahmaan.
